I made up an equation of what a living wage should be according to the ideals of life, love and the pursuit of happiness. First I broke it down to how much it would take to meet the basic needs of a single person. Food, Shelter, Health Insurance, Transportation. I gave a very modest amount to the housing, an amount that is probably too low. Given the cost of these, with an additional 200 dollars a month to spend on personal interests (because I deserve to pursue that as an American) Thats about 27,000 a year. A job would have to pay 15 dollars an hour to cover those costs. This is not including things like laundry, cable, telephone, clothes, soap, personal hygiene items like toilet paper and what not, or dental care. Considering that most of us live on a third of that wage is pretty eye opening to just how unjust this whole thing is. A friend told me that if the wealth was equally distributed through all the country (or world, cant remember) that each household would be earning 700,000 dollars a year. THATS how screwed up this all is! What's screwed up??? If someone makes millions of dollars a year and does not share it with everyone, it's not fair??? Or that the cost of living is too high for people to afford basic necessities??? $15 an hour is not much in high rent areas...

Yes. It is screwed up that there is that much money sitting in so few hands, and that the opportunity to develop anything that will generate even 15 dollars an hour is almost out of reach, if not being deliberately withheld. Its screwed up because we can no longer be land owners and business owners, and we dont have access to mentors or advisors that will help us navigate the state of poverty so we can have a shot at successfully learning how and what to study. Its messed up that the advantage of the wealthy is so great, and their desire to assist those that are disadvantaged is so little, that we basically are going to cause a huge stagnation in growth that could easily be avoided were they more concerned about our society. Instead, people are simply taking what they can get- on both sides- and the ones that have, who rely on those of us that dont have, arent bothering to help them in any productive way. They arent even willing to pay them enough to rise into the basic level of need! This is the posion of the Republican party, and its the poison of the religious right and the belief that the individual is responsible for their own success and that all they need to do for them is feed them when they wind up in the homeless shelters. It is our poison for not doing more, educating ourselves with what we have, and for allowing our children to become criminals and addicts! ITS ALL FUCKED UP SWAN.

Not just the poison of the right...have you noticed the crime rates, homelessness, poverty in cities run by the left?? Socialism is "POWER" for politicians...

And then companies like mine pay up their lease in full (2-3 years worth of rent) to close down the store to avoid paying the $15 minimum wage increase to employees.

Goodwill is still available for people....near the suburbs. The city has consignment shops and antique shops. Trying to change the city into a place average people can't afford to live lol Still cheaper than many big cities though!

So that's why they closed down?? because they didn't want to pay the minimum wage increase...?? 2-3 years of pre-paid rent seems like a good amount to just eat, guess it was less than paying their employees... But glad you found another job

I've got mixed feelings about robots in the food industry. Like, I am cool with having people waiters. But fast food? They've designed a machine that can make all of that stuff perfectly according to order with minimal/zero mess ups. I really don't need Jaquarius who is high on 5 different drugs messing up my order after waiting a year for it. And yes, I know I sound very white and privileged putting it like that, but it's damn true so run and tell that, homeboy. Only way I can envision human hands with fast food would be in a specific maintenance or customer service role, or if the food was really, really made with love and I don't mean jacking off in the clam chowder.

Hey, At least robots don't add bodily fluids to the food. So no it's not white privilege behavior. Don't forget Larry may be high as fuck, tweaking and making fast food too. Hell, I remember seeing a video of uber drivers or door dash people eating customer's food. Now the business pack the food up pretty great.
