The Spotlight Song can be seen seen on the front page of the Shadowland website, at www.welcometoshadowland.com - hit it up! A brief blurb of commentary may follow each song. And today's song is...... Today!! "Today is the greatest day I have ever known...I'll burn my eyes out, before I get out..." And so with such sardonic masochism, The Smashing Pumpkins put forth their cry for help as an anthem for the burned out generations unknown and why, its echoes reverberating through the years and in the ears of lost youth everywhere. And if its sorrow were not to be swallowed in death, it would be swallowed in the petitioning provocations of lust and desire embodied in the repeated desperate confession - "I want to turn you on.."

Porcelina of the Vast Oceans - June 19, 2014
Porcelina, the fantasy of oceans blue and queen of soft delusions, waiting on the distant shoreline to be the healer and the muse. Patron saint of the misfortuned soul, she soothes with her seashell hissing lullabyes and restores the wounded hero back into the transcendent mind of everyone, as he whispers in gratitude, "You make it right."

Now that is a great song of the day! Especially hearing it at the crack of dawn!
"it's what you take that makes it right"

Song of the Day: My Life and Times, by Zwan
I'll be honest - this song is a bit of a tear-jerker. There's nothing so pure as living your life in love for another, and knowing that so doing is just the same as living it for yourself. To have one of your core needs be the love and welfare of another - your love, your family, your friends...or to have a heart wise and deep enough to embrace everyone. "Cause my life and my love stand for always....too much to lose, my life to you."

Song of the Day: Lightning Strikes Originally known as "Zen Baby," Lightning Strikes seems to sum up the charter, current status and unknown direction of the band in a new aged interpretation of the 21st century. " Indigo, breathless yet, I'll link to your regret ,Sunflowers as teachers pets Bent from lightning," seems to make reference to the "indigo children," a new age concept of people being born in this time who are gifted with special abilities of perception and understanding. The song continues with the mantra, "Shadows, give your light to me," a call for the hidden muse that has always inspired the Smashing Pumpkins to greatness. Also, as updated on the front page of the site, Shadowland now has a motto: "Shadows, give your light to me."

Good song. I remember someone bitching about too much synthy organ in it.
I've always liked the line "shadows, give your light to me"

Song of the Day - FOL
Originally a b-side from Zeitgeist, it was used in a car commercial that was aired during the Super Bowl, and highly criticized by some in the fanbase for it. As such, it seems to remain a somewhat controversial song. However, it wasn't the first time The Smashing Pumpkins had used a song for commercial purposes, and ideological arguments can be made for or against. I personally don't have a problem with it - it's a great little song. Great riffs, a rockin' Jimmy beat, and some classic Corgan-esque lyrics that resemble the traditional thematic death wish of the band. "I know there's death around, I catch the damage in the air." And I also love "Failing's something I can do" it says, like a backwards, cynically satisfied acknowledgement of being able to at least do something right, to fail in flames.

Song of the Day - On The Meaning Of Loss
This is a rare song and live recording from the Hideout performances done during the Zwan era ,and it is seriously one of the most terribly sad and beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard, yet it is so short. "Sad and beautiful" seem to be one of the things Billy does best. A song about love and loss and the lingering ghosts of the tender remains. The piano is the sound of haunting memories of love, and the singing is mournful yearning. It ends with the hope that perhaps one might love again. "Empty noon, fall in love, one last sip from your cup is too much..."

Song of the Day - Satellites
In honor of one of my favorite Adore demos that doesn't seem to be showing up on the re-issue.
I love this song. It has such range of emotions - desperation, love, needing, loneliness, disconnection in the connection. I'm guessing it's a song about a girl he makes love to, but they are never truly attached as he or they both might wish.
Great lyrics.
Me and her We get around Never see much Staring hard Into the ground Electricity for love
You know it's the end of all You know this is the end It's what you've been waiting for Like a long lost friend Attached by satellites... It's a long way down
You're an angel I don't wanna go to heaven You're an angel I don't wanna go to heaven You're an angel I don't wanna go to heaven You're an angel I don't wanna go to heaven
Me and her We get around We always rock the bus Each a tube Inside the ground Electricity for love
You know this is the end You know it's the end It's what you've been waiting for Like a long lost friend Attached by satellites... Satellites It's a long way down
You're an angel I don't wanna go to heaven You're an angel I don't wanna go to heaven You're an angel I don't wanna go to heaven You're an angel I don't wanna go to heaven

He can still sing with that kind of passion and range, I see and hear it...but for some reason he isn't giving into it...
