22 year old with a carry & conceal permit stayed the night at his cousin's home. Minneapolis police & SWAT went into the apartment with a no knock search warrant and had a regular search warrant from my understanding. They opened the door with a key, announcing themselves, woke Amir up with all the commotion, who reached for his gun, he was shot 2 times in the chest, and 1 time in the wrist. He died. He has no criminal record, was apparently not listed as a suspect on the search warrant. The actual warrant info has not been released. I understand protocol with gun wielding human and police. We've seen & read about it enough lately in the news. This situation is incredibly fucked up.
National guard is on standby ready for any orders to protect public safety. 3 pm protest today.

Wow.
Well, watched the video.
Yes, the guy did have a gun in his hand. It was a terrible decision on his part to grab his gun when SWAT is coming in yelling "Search Warrant!"
That being said, the guy was obviously asleep and when you first wake up you decision making capabilities aren't that good. You might even still be halfway dreaming.
The gun wasn't pointed at any officer.
I understand officers have to make split second decisions and they are (rightfully) told to protect themselves and their partners.
This is kind of a tough one since the guy did grab the gun and although it wasn't specifically pointed at an officer at the time, it was by default in their direction and he could have easily begun firing.
But that being said, you got SWAT in there with their helmets and armor....you'd think maybe a little restraint could be called for, even if threatened.
I doubt this guy's death is real loss for society, considering the circumstances. Chances are he was a scumbag considering he's sleeping on the couch with a gun at a house being raided by SWAT in connection to a murder. BUT - this is an issue for all citizens, all people.
The problem is we have over-excited cops coming in there demanding compliance, who have been trained to not only eliminate threats but even the suggestion of a threat.
This is a scenario they should have trained for. I wonder if they did? I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't.
I don't think he should have been shot. I think it's understandable he was, because of their training and human nature....but does a suspect having a gun in his hand at all require him to be shot? I would say no.
Furthermore - why immediately lethal weapons being used? Could not some kind of taser also have neutralized him? Maybe? I don't know.
Cops put their lives on the line every day. They should be strive to be safe. But danger is also part of the job description, and you have to be able to accept the danger and still do your service to society. Cops in America are being trained to put the safety of themselves and their partners before the safety of the public. We can argue about if that's backwards or not, but what we're seeing is this is being carried out at a lethal expense to the public, and I have to admit, it's scary.

It's possible the police fucked up and got the wrong apartment. Guess we'll find out eventually. The kid apparently wasn't involved in thug life. Do better with your accusation. This city has a serious problem with carjackings and robbery for the past year. He got a permit to carry so he could do his job and protect himself against the carjackings and robberies.

What can I say, that's really tragic. Someone will have to pay the price. Or so I hope.
